Welcome!

My wife and I created this blog for Kansas Citians to have somewhere to read about great restaurant and bar bargains, deals and happy hours. We've thrown our money out the window so many times and have always looked unsuccessfully for somewhere to find great KC deals for dinner & drinks. We enjoy watching the Food Network and I love cooking and we're always looking for good food & drink at a great price. Don't get me wrong, we're down with a dive as long as the food is great!.Hopefully this blog will satisfy similar minds!

Carlo's Copa Room

We had been to the previous location of Carlo's Copa Room in midtown several times before.  We recently learned that they'd moved to a new location in Lenexa at 87th and Lackman.  When we a saw Groupon deal for $35 of food & drink for $15 yesterday we decided to buy it and head there for dinner tonight.  We had loved the food and atmosphere at the previous location.  However, we were somewhat disappointed tonight.  We sat on the patio since it was so nice outside.  However, the Copa Room is located in a strip mall and the patio faces the back parking lot.  It was also very quiet out there so it was hard to talk over a whisper without feeling like everyone was listening to your conversation (fyi the inside atmosphere seemed a little drab too).  Soup and salad came with our entrees.  I had the soup, which was a squash and pasta soup.  It was very tasty.  My wife had the caesar salad, which was also very good.  The bread was soft but my wife swore it was previously frozen (and it didn'tt come with olive oil-only butter).  For dinner I had the shrimp spedini with fettucine alfredo ($22).  The shrimp spedini was good, but not as good as the chicken spedini.  The fettucine was average.  I think I actually make a better one.  My wife had the Sammy, Frank & Dean combo, ($22) which is lasagna, chicken spedini and fettucine alfredo.  The lasagna was her favorite, which she put up there with Cupini's, which might I add is only $7.99 and gigantic.  The chicken spedini also was good but could have used a little kick.  We also ordered drinks.  I thought the pinot gris at $6 wasn't a bad deal.  My wife had a bellini, which was on the martini menu.  There were no prices on the martini menu and for a reason.  It was $10 in a strip mall.  I think a $10 martini would make a little more sense on the plaza!  Additionally the portions seemed a little smaller.  I ate all of mine and there wasn't much left of my wife's either.  All in all we would up spending nearly $70 with tax and tip after the coupon!  We don't think it's worth going back for seconds!
